Many of you will know that it is becoming harder and harder to find umpires to cover all the games at Reading.
On average last season we had to find at least 10 umpires every Saturday for the home games.
There was also a huge number of Colts games that had to be covered as well on the Sundays.

League rules for practically every team in the Mens, Ladies and Colts sections require a registered Level 1 to umpire the games.

The more people we can get qualified, the less pressure is put on the current umpires and the players who are forced to umpire their game instead of playing it !

The course is open to all at the club - players (age 14+), supporters, coaches and parents.

Please note that after the 18th July the course will be advertised on the EH website if there are spaces left.

Please be advised bookings must be made in the name of the participant – bookings cannot be made on behalf of someone else.
You will also need to complete a Pre course online rules test prior to attending.

The club will reimburse the £50 to every umpire that takes, passes the course and then umpires at least 5 games in the season -this can be adults as well as Colts games.

Further coaching / sideline support is (and always has been) available to umpires who feel that they need a little more help with confidence and umpiring a game.

During the season we will also be running a few "Introduction to umpiring" course. This is useful for parents, coaches, young leaders or new umpires who want a little more advice and support

1. The course is for anyone who is going to be umpiring the 11 – a – side game.

2. The course comprises 5 modules:
Module 1 Pre course online Rules test
Module 2 The Game from the players’ perspective
Module 3 The role of the umpire
Module 4 Player management
Module 5 Preparation and planning the next steps

3. The course costs £50 per participant.
4. Participants receive a resource pack containing
a. A Fox 40 Classic Eclipse whistle
b. A wallet containing warning cards, score pads and pencil
c. A course workbook
d. A Rules Book
e. A pre match checklist

5. The course is delivered by tutors accredited by England Hockey.
6. Course participants must be at least 14 years old (and with parental consent).
7. Participants, who have completed the course, including the pre course online Rules test, will be accredited as an England Hockey L1 umpire.
