With the aim of developing club hockey at an international level, the European Hockey Federation, in co-operation with Dutch sports marketing and media agency PRO SPORT, introduced the Euro Hockey League, the exciting new format that replaced the mens European Cup competition at the start of the 2007/2008 season.  The Euro Hockey League takes place over several weekends throughout the season. 

Reading have qualified for the Euro Hockey League 2010/2011 for the 4th successive season – the only English club to achieve this.  Reading have always reached the final 16, and on two occasions the final 8 – this year we will be hoping to go one better and qualify for the final 4 weekend…  

Beeston and East Grinstead are the other English representatives.

The draw for the first round stages of the 2010/2011 competition is now complete, and Reading HC will take on HC Bloemendaal of the Netherlands and SC Stroitel Brest of Belarus in Group A, being played 29th-31st October at the Atletic Terrassa club just outside Barcelona.   The top two teams in the group will progress to the next stage – the KO16 round which will be held at Easter 2011.  Bloemendaal have a long and successful pedegree in European hockey, having won the EHL trophy in 2008/9 whereas for the Belarus champions Stroitel Brest it will be a first appearance in the competition.
