Solid Team Performance sees Rascals beat Phoenix 8-0

Excellent performance sees Reading Rascals extend their unbeaten run to 5 games

This season's new look Reading Rascals are putting in some top performances and after today's win have stretched their unbeaten run to 5 games scoring a hat full of goals in the process. Today's opposition Phoenix and Ranalagh 3's arrived very early having misjudged the time it was going to take them to cross the north east part of town and spent the best part of 45 minutes sheltering from what could only be described as the most miserable day's weather we have seen this year. Mutterings of how come it isn't sunny like it was when we left home five minutes ago were heard.

Phoenix are a good side, with a good goalie but few younger legs which was their eventual downfall. The game was closely contested with Reading having to work hard to maintain the good flowing hockey they are getting used to. In the opening 20 minutes there were few attacking opportunities for either side and when the ball did venture in to the attacking 25 the ball was mopped up by the defence or saved by the keeper. Reading had the better of the chances on balance with Chris Wright doing some great running up front. Just as frustration looked to be creeping in good fortune struck Reading when a non-dangerous looking cross was deflected in to the Phoenix goal by their defenders foot. The second goal was equally contentious as it followed a well controlled lifted ball from the byline to the back post where the Reading attacker was there to push the ball home. At 2-0 the young Reading team started to enjoy themselves making the most of their speed. The first half ended 3-0 to Reading.

The second half started much as the first half had ended with Reading scoring a 4th on their first attack. Good play from everyone on the Reading team meant Phoenix had little settled play and although carving out a few chances towards the end of the match that either went wide of the goal or were expertly saved by Will Mann. Reading added to their tally as the game progressed.

Burger and Chips for tea and a catch up on the Final score at the Emirates rounded off what had been a good day.
