The official Reading Hockey Club app

We have a new Cols Offering for the 2019/20 season. details to be published shortly.

Our youth hockey section is the ‘The Next Generation’ and we provide a safe and fun environment where young players from the age of 4 to 18 can learn and enjoy hockey. We are always delighted to have new young people join us. Enquiries:

At all ages we provide a balance of training and hockey game/match play suitable to the age of the child which allows them to continually develop their skills and understanding of the game whilst enjoying themselves and taking exercise. No-one needs to have played hockey before as our sessions cater for all abilities. All that is required is the enthusiasm to want to get active and find out about hockey. Anyone can come along and join in 2 taster sessions before deciding whether hockey and Reading is right for them. We can provide hockey sticks for trial sessions. Mouth guards and shin pads are available for sale in the Hungry Hut.

Refreshments and snacks are available throughout the Sunday mornings at the Hungry Hut.

IMPORTANT: Parents and guardians of children in the U6, U8 and U10 sessions are expected to remain on site throughout the training session(and at matches) in case of emergency. Parents and guardians of ages U12 and above are expected to be within 15 minutes (arrival at the pitch side) travel time in case of emergency. It is the responsibility of the parents and guardians to ensure all their membership details for themselves and their children on our members database (pitchero) are current and that they are capable of being contacted during training sessions or matches. This includes all medical and contact details.

Coaching Sessions

All sessions are held at our Sonning Lane club. The child’s age on September 1st 2019 dictates which group they should join.

Coaching Sessions schedule to be published shortly

Coaching Sessions and times might be subject to change.
Please check the news area of this website prior to session to check the times. Pitch allocations will be shown on the whiteboard on the side of the clubhouse.

Can you help us?

Our Colts section is huge but it is run almost completely on a voluntary basis. The growth of the section is fantastic; however, the increasing amount of work that comes with growth is, at present, not matched by an increase in volunteers. In short, we would need to share the workload out before our current volunteers become too frazzled!

Colts Committee meets on the first Monday of every month at the club, 7.30 – 9.00pm. In addition to the general management of the club we need the following roles:
Colts Finance Coordinator
Colts Communications Coordinator
Colts Social & Fundraising Coordinator
Colts Volunteer Coordinator

There would be a need to attend or provide input to the Colts Committee meetings, but otherwise the work is from time to time, requires collecting information and communicating with others whilst at the club with your child (or children), liaising with others via e mail, passing information on to others in club roles.

All these roles are designed to be discrete that will not be too onerous or time consuming. If you are interested please give Judith Barton a call on 07710 019259 or on or you’ll find her at the club on Sundays from 08.30.
