Kit

We were proud to announce adidas as Reading Hockey Club’s official kit supplier from 2011, with both our 1st XIs enjoying considerable success in their adidas kit.  The range was launched to the whole club for the start of the 2012/13 season.

The Reading Hockey adidas kit range consists of both playing and training kit. The adidas kit is custom made in Reading Hockey colours – all materials are performance fabrics and of the highest quality.

The range will remain in place from 2012 to 2016. Further details on the transition to the new kit are provided below

The new kit

Core playing kit:

The new designs are as shown below

The only ‘compulsory’ items of the new kit are the playing shirts and socks. When representing the Club in competitive matches, members must wear the new adidas shirts and socks. Members may adopt the new kit at any time during the year, but please note that by September 2013, it will no longer be acceptable to play in old non-adidas shirts or socks. Although it would be possible for teams to have players in a mixture of the old and new shirts up to this point, we would strongly encourage all members to adopt the new home shirt and socks as soon as possible, and preferably by placing your order during the summer (see below).

The Club shorts/skorts continue to be navy. You may wear any plain navy shorts/skorts or, if you wish, purchase the Reading Hockey adidas shorts or skorts. This is entirely optional.

Alternative strip in the event of a colour clash (‘Away kit’):

In the past Club teams have, on an ad hoc basis, used a white shirt in the event of a colour clash with opposition when playing away from home. Many of these alternative shirts were not numbered and a wide range of styles were in use. In order to achieve uniformity across the Club and to meet the increasing requirement of leagues for all players to wear numbered shirts, we have introduced a new change or ‘away’ shirt.

To provide a better contrast between the home and alternative kit, the ‘away’ shirt has changed from the current white to the new navy blue with sky blue trim. Alternative socks are sky blue, for those teams which wish to use a change of socks.

As it is clearly impractical for teams to play (in the event of a colour clash) with players in a mixture of old white and new navy blue shirts, each team will need to adopt the new alternative shirts en masse rather than as individuals. Team captains will coordinate the changeover for the change shirts in consultation with team members. As with the home strip, the changeover must be completed by the start of the 2013-14 season. Some teams may adopt both strips this year, or chose to adopt the home strip at the start of this season and the away strip at the start of next. Please liaise with your team captain.

Goalkeepers:

Reading Hockey adidas goalkeeper smocks are available in green or orange, with the Reading Hockey logo and a shirt number. These are not shown in the brochure, but are available through the new online ordering system (see below).

Juniors aged over 12 (i.e. U14, U16, U18):

Guidelines for older age groups of junior players representing the Club in formal matches are as per the adult teams above. The adidas home shirt and socks are required and must be adopted by September 2013 at the latest.

The smaller adult sizes are suitable for ages 13 upwards.

U12 juniors (i.e. U8, U10 and U12):

U8, U10 and U12 players representing the Club in junior competitions should wear the junior version of the adidas home shirt, which is available without VAT in sizes from age 6 up to age 12.

Socks should be the navy blue adidas ‘home’ sock which is available in junior sizes, or alternatively plain navy blue. Shorts or skorts should be plain navy blue – an adidas option can be made available if there is demand (see below).

Our younger juniors have traditionally had navy blue ‘Next Generation’ sweatshirts/hoodies. A similar style of lower cost, non-adidas garment will continue to be available for these age groups and junior versions of the adidas adult options can be made available if there is demand. Please note these items are not compulsory.

Training kit:

As you will see from the brochure, there is a new range of Reading Hockey training wear including Clima tee shirts, tracksuit jacket, tracksuit pants and hoody. As with the shorts and skorts, all these items are optional.

The adidas shorts, tracksuit tops/pants and hoodies can be made available in youth sizes (up to age 12) if there is sufficient demand. If you would like the range to be extended, please let us know by emailing admin@readinghockeyclub.org.uk

Additional Items:

The Reading Hockey clothing range will be added to over time – here are a few winter items that are now available. We’re still looking at more – like golf umbrellas, towels, bags etc. Watch this space….

The new items include a warm padded adidas bench jacket, adidas rain jacket, Reading Hockey scarf  and Reading Hockey beanie hat.

The sky blue Reading Hockey adidas hoody in mens and ladies styles is also now in stock.

How and where to buy your kit

The introduction of the new range also marks a change in the way that kit will be sold to members. For 22 years, Elaine Hunt has operated the Club shop, Clubgear, but 2011-12 marked the final season of its operation. Elaine has provided a fantastic service to Club members throughout that time and the Hockey Committee wishes to place on record its huge debt of thanks for all her hard work over this long period.

Game, Set and Match Limited (‘GSAM’) has been appointed the Club’s kit supplier with immediate effect. GSAM is owned and operated by senior England International and ex Reading 1st XI player (and coach) – Ben Barnes. All prices have been set below recommended retail prices and GSAM will pay a commission to the Club on all purchases by members.

GSAM will operate a primarily online service, but in addition will attend the Club in person on a number of early-season weekends to display and sell the Club kit and a wider range of hockey products. This service will include there-and-then shirt numbering. GSAM will also attend the Club on a number of Sundays during Colts training and to coincide with 1st XI ‘double header’ home matches.

Playing shirts and socks can be pre-ordered during the summer and we strongly recommend members take advantage of this service to guarantee your shirt is available for the start of the season. An initial bulk order has been placed but will not cover the whole Club – pre-ordering will help us manage stocks, re-order as necessary to minimise re-stocking times and ensure that shirts are available for all – it also means that you are not asked to pay for a new shirt/socks at the same time as your annual subscription!

Shirt numbering

All shirts will be supplied with a number. To avoid clashes of numbers where members play in more than one team in the Club we are adopting section-wide numbering systems. When ordering shirts members may apply for a specific number, which will be allocated to them if available. GSAM will maintain the master list of shirt numbers and be responsible for allocating them. If no specific request is made, the next available number will be allocated.

If ordering from GSAM online, requests for numbers should be done in the ‘Special instructions’ box in the ‘Check out’ – please indicate age, gender and team as appropriate (see below). If ordering at a trying-on session at the Club, a Club official will have access to the master list and will allocate a number at that time.

Please note that numbers will only be allocated when a shirt is ordered and paid for – shirt numbers cannot be reserved in advance. If you want a specific number, please order early to avoid disappointment.

Numbers will be allocated as follows:

Ladies and girls:

Girls aged 12 and under: Numbered 1-xxx
Girls aged 13 upwards: As adults
Adults (and juniors playing in adult teams): 1-xxx

Men and boys:

Boys aged 12 and under: numbered 1-xxx
Boys aged 13 upwards: As adults
Adults (and juniors playing in adult teams): 1-xxx
Rustlers and Redsox: 1-50
Veterans: 1-30

Shirt names:

If you wish to have your surname applied to your shirt in the same style as the 1st XIs, this is available as an optional extra at £3

Getting the right size

GSAM will be at the club regularly during the season.

A sample set of playing shirts in all sizes (including juniors) will be available: you can complete an order form and pay for your shirt/socks at these sessions, or alternatively place an order on-line having checked your size. Note that once a shirt has been personalised (with number or name) – it cannot be returned, so please only place an order for a shirt once you have tried on one of the samples.

All kit ordered before the start of the season (if in stock) will be brought to the Club by GSAM when they attend sessions at the Club in September 2012 (with no delivery charge). Thereafter orders placed online will be delivered free if over £75, or for £3.50 if less than this. All orders will be despatched via 24 hour courier if in stock.

The Reading Hockey kit page is available on GSAM’s website where all kit items can be viewed and purchased. Once the first batch of kit has been delivered by adidas we will retain a set in all sizes in the club house for members to try on before ordering online.

All other items in the kit range will be available at the start of the season.

GSAM will also make special offers on their wider kit ranges (sticks, shoes etc) available to Club members on a periodical basis

Other information:

Please note that the adidas playing kit is made from high performance Climacool fabrics and should be washed at a maximum of 30 deg C.
