L2: Reading 2 – Wallingford 3

By Reading Hockey Club • Oct 3rd, 2008 • Category: L2, Match Reports

A mixed 2s side made up of old familiar faces and a few new ones headed confidently out to face Wallingford in the first league match of the season.

A nervous start saw us concede two goals within the first 15 minutes as we tried to get used to new players & position – in hindsight not a good idea in our first league match!

However, the 2s characteristic determination and skill became apparent as we settled down and pulled back to a 2-2 score line at halftime thanks to a strong finish from Chloe & a moment of finesse from Maz in lobbing the keeper.

The halftime talk covered a multitude of sins, and the second half saw some good patches of play from Reading who had the better of the chances but just couldn’t convert them. Wallingford finally managed to score from one of their many short corner routines and the pressure was on to equalise with very little time remaining with the last play of the match being a Reading short corner; which Jenjer put into the back of the net, sadly too high.

Overall not a bad start from the 2s – and apart from the result, there was a lot to be pleased about and also a lot to build on!

Team: Lex, H, Evans, Melman, Tally, Maz, Witters, MeJulie, Holly, Chloe, Jenjer & JenSweeny.

Thanks to the noisy home crowd of the 1As for a bit, Sarah, Matron Craven & Robbie, Tally’s Olds and other Olds who we need to get to know better!

MOTM was Tally who played a blinder in a totally unfamiliar position

DOTD was Mel – don’t ask!!
