U18 Girls: West Witney 1 Reading 13

By Reading Hockey Club • Dec 5th, 2008 • Category: Match Reports, U18 Girls

Yet another away trip for the Girls U18s on an incredibly gloomy and bloody freezing day in North Oxfordshire, saw them take on West Witney in the 3rd Round of the EH Cup.

During the warm up 2 of the West Witney players clashed heads with each other with the Paramedics on their way this left Witney struggling for options and a brief panicked conversation between the Witney lady and I about her wish to forfeit the match due to them having no subs, thankfully with the 1 of the girls recovering in time we didn’t have to go down the route!

As horrible as witnessing the clash of heads was for Witney it was Reading who started a little bit on the shaky side. Clearly slightly put off with their opposition’s situation and ease in which they had the ball, Reading went to sleep a little bit, although Reading had all the possession and attacked all the time a slight lapse on concentration left Witney free to have a shot on goal which the took very well and converted in the 12th minute. Bizarrely West Witney scoring was the best thing that could of happened to Reading, with Jenna Woolven smashing the ball home only 2 minutes later to make the scores even again. As soon as the first goal went in Reading had a little bit of a scoring spree with Chloe Lyons grabbing Reading’s second in the 17th minute with Emily Hogge getting the third almost immediately afterwards. Chloe Lyons then grabbed her second and Reading’s fourth 3 minutes later with Jenna getting her second 3 minutes after that, leaving Amelia Cox to grab her first goal of the game a few minutes before half time and Chloe Lyons grabbing her hat trick just on the stroke of half time, leaving it 7-1 at the whistle.

Reading didn’t waist time in stamping there authority on the game, scoring only 1 minute in to the restart with Chloe’s fourth goal of the game with Jenna getting her hat trick another 3 minutes later! Reading went through a whole 14 minutes without scoring another goal, but no fear Chloe was on hand to batter home her fifth goal of the game and Reading’s 10th in the 53rd minute! Not to be outdone Jenna scored her fourth and fifth a few minutes later with Emily Hogge grabbing her second with 1 minute to go. Reading played well as a team, although could of easily scored double the amount with very close shots from everybody except Grace, even Izzy ventured into the D at least once (yes we where shocked too!!!) Between Becky and Jenna they both managed to get hit 1 ball each over the fence! West Witney did well considering the circumstances, they’re goalkeeper playing an absolute blinder, if it wasn’t for her they would have been looking at a very high score line indeed (so well done her). Looking forward to the next round…..
