L2: Reading 5 – Phoenix & Ranalagh 1
By Reading Hockey Club • May 2nd, 2009 • Category: L2, Match ReportsFollowing the Easter break the Dirty 2s came together for their last (rearranged) game of the season, and on a sunny April morning we strode confidently onto the pitch with nothing less than a win on our minds, a song in our hearts and Melmans final team talk ringing in our ears!
Reading started strongly and were unlucky not to have scored from several early attacks as we suffered from a bad case of push-at-goal-itis on more than one occasion. However, as we moved the ball around and created space all over the park, ChloeJo had a brilliant run down the right, drawing 2 players and slipping a sweet ball to a waiting Jenjer at the top of the D to blast home and silence the Ladies 1st team hecklers who were watching (and learning) from the sidelines!
Melman then scored a brilliant goal to bring further gasps of awe from the appreciative noisy home crowd, and this was followed by a sneaky tap in from Jenjer to give the Dirty 2s a comfortable 3 goal advantage, and the freedom to play the ball at will around the park to further control the game.
Reading were all over P&R like a cheap suit after the break and Ellie extended our lead with a fine goal, and although P&R managed to find the net and upset our quest for a final clean sheet, no one was more surprised than Jenjer when her left-handed-back-to-the-goal-lazy-swing bobbled in to complete her hatrick leaving the final score a happy 5-1.
Team: Lex, H, Holly, Jos, Evans, Melman, Witters, MeJulie, Random, Isobelladora, Suzy, Ellie, Laura, ChloeJo, & Jenjer.
MOTM was Jenjer – hatrick-fest!
DOTD was Chloe – 11 easter eggs, fat-ist, age-ist, victory dance, innit…’nuff said
Thanks to the final noisy home crowd of the season and to guest bench runner Gowers and the lovely Santa.
