Dirty 2s End of Season Report
By Reading Hockey Club • May 2nd, 2009 • Category: L2, Match ReportsThe Dirty 2s finished the Trysports Three Counties Premier 1 League on 43 points in 5th place overall, a mere 10 points shy of the top place, and a somewhat disappointing result considering we were sitting pretty at the top of the table until mid-February.
Statistically from 22 league matches, we won 14; lost 7 and only drew 1 match, scoring 82 goals and only conceded 32.
For the 2008/09 season the Dirty 2s were a team of old favourites and a variety of regular and new young’uns, yet we gelled together as a unit who took the team motto of ‘Have Fun’ to heart both on and off the pitch!
The Dirty 2s played some brilliant hockey this year, with every member of the team playing vital roles whenever they were called upon. We conquered passing the ball round the back which opened up new channels and exploited them with dynamic play and pinpoint passing; we beat half-court presses with ease; scored some blinding (and not so blinding) goals and most importantly Had Fun doing it!!
A variety of players have contributed to the Dirty 2s, but the core players pretty much were;
Lex, H, Holly, Jos, Evans, Melman, Witters, MeJulie, ChloeJo, Jenjer, Suzy, Ellie, Laura, Jen Sweeny, Tally, Francesca, Nadia, Gilly, Random and Isobelladora.
It’s All About The Dirty 2s Team awards went to;
Players Player of the Season (voted for by the Dirty 2s)
Mel
Mel graciously shared the award with equal 2nd placed H, Evans and Jenjer – a generous decision by a brilliant Captain reflecting a true team performance.
Most Improved Player (voted for by the Dirty 2s)
Jos
Top Goal Scorer (Cup of Jenjer)
Jenjer
Player of the Season (based on man of the match voting over the season)
Holly
Dick of the Season (based on dick of the day voting over the season)
ChloeJo
The Dirty 2s also say farewell to familiar faces, and will be without the services next year of Holly, Jos and Isobelladora who are all off to Uni – the whole team wishes them the very best of luck, love and happiness for pastures new.
MeJulie is also leaving the club after 11 years of Reading hockey covering the 1st team, the 1As and of course the Dirty 2s. A well known collector of yellow cards over the years it would appear that although MeJulie has mellowed in her later years, her stick tackles will live on!!! We wish the Family Smythe the very best in their move to Cambridge.
And finally, Jenjer is returning to her native Australia after 20 years in the UK, and 7 seasons of playing for Reading. Jenjer leaves behind her legacy (in time for next season) in the form of the Cup of Jenjer (which, by the way, holds exactly 1 bottle of Blue Wkd!), and hopes the future Dirty 2s do her proud!
For me personally it’s been my most enjoyable season at Reading, and that is down to each and every member of the Dirty 2s – I just want to say a heartfelt thank you, especially to Melman and Tino…I’ve had a lovely time!
Jenjer
