L2A: Reading 6 Phoenix Ranalagh 1By Reading Hockey Club • Nov 18th, 2009 • Category: L2A, Match Reports
Finally nice to have a game at Sonning Lane it’s self.
Still on a high from last week and were hungry to win again.
Yet again NO Grace.. BUT yet again an awesome stand in HEV woo hoo. Grace are you free to play this week? Do you have time for us?
Thinking we were pretty lucky for the weather to be holding out as we started to warm up. We had a good solid warm up and were assessing the competition.
The game gets off to a good start until we make it in to their D within the first 2 seconds and I may have got over excited to touch the ball and fell hard – slightly embarrassing. Anyway as the game continued, we held most of the possession. Our first goal came from Cattermole with another beautiful strike from a short corner. We were off to a good start. Our next goal came from me. I managed to score from the top of the D actually hitting the ball (almost never happens). I would like to say i was not best pleased with the umpiring decision to take away one of the best goals I had ever scored.. It went a little something like this.. Kirkham smashed the ball in to the circle where i just happened to be waiting with my stick tilted in front of the goalie… It flew over her and in to the goal.. pretty sweet.. BUT NO.. Apparently the other umpire across the other side of the pitch could see it didn’t come off of my stick.. SORRY WHAT?
Half time comes around and Tess came up with a pretty plan which was almost certain plan for us to score.
The second half gets under way. We win a short corner – Plan amazing comes in to action. Tess gets ready to push out and Cattermole happily waits on the left slip position while the rest of us have a “team talk” to decide what we should do. Whilst we are deciding and the attention is on our huddle Tess pushes out to Cattermole and another amazing strike whilst they are still stood on the line gives us another goal.. haa haa.. That just made them plain angry!
I think it was at this point when the weather became horrendous. Gale force winds, Rain and Hailstones.
Our next goal came from Briony A – Just amazing! She also managed to hit their main defender whilst having a shot on goal which led to the game being stopped to transport her to the bench to which as this was occurring the goalie turned round and asked if it was OK to stop whilst this occurred. I think she was insinuating that we cheated? I don’t think she liked our short corner routine? HA. Nothing wrong with that!
I actually couldn’t believe my ears when one of the umpires asked me if i had been out the night before. What are you insinuating I asked? He replied with your playing really well. Confused.com. Let’s hope that’s the situation next Saturday
Tess scored our next goal which came from a 2 on 1 with the Goalie. I managed to actually pass in the D for Tess to score another beautiful goal.
Our last goal was awesomely set up by Briony A who ran it all the way to the backline and then hit across the goal line and behind the keeper for Me to be sat on the back post waiting, yet again a little over excited managed to swipe it in second time round.
Oh and they may have scored once.
Anyway another win. How exciting, which actually aloud us to move from 11th to 8th position in the table.. bye bye relegation zone.. (well for now anyway)
No cards that I can remember either – Well done Tess!
I would like to say another massive thank you to our supporters, loud as ever even in those conditions and they were still out to support us – Now that’s loyalty.
Final score 6-1 WOOHOO.
Claire Cattermole x 2
Lucy Scott x 2
Briony Anyon x 1
Tess Lewinton x1
