Weekend Roundup 14/15 November 2009

By Reading Hockey Club • Nov 18th, 2009 • Category: Home Page

Imagine this in some kind of old fashioned telegraph, morse code, beepy type news style.

… Ladies 1s have a stormer up North beating reigning champions Bowdon Hightown 5-2 in the EHL Prem on Saturday to open up a gap over Berkshire rivals Slough in 3rd and then making the quarter finals of the cup by beating Sheffield Hallam 6-0 on the Sunday. Their reward for this massive road tripping effort … a QF draw AWAY at Sunderland in February. And don’t we have some fond memories of that journey girls.

… this week the Ladies 1s play on SUNDAY (14:40 push back against Clifton)

… the Mens 1s also head to Bowdon on Sunday but with 3 key England men injured (Jonty, Si and Mackay) they struggle in the first half, but a big 2nd half performance see them get a point as the game finishes 2-2 and they lose ground on leaders Surbiton …

… who they get to play on SATURDAY (16:00 push back at Sugden Road) in a HUGE top of the table clash before they get back on the road and head back to Manchester for their cup game against Brooklands MU on the Sunday

… Saturday’s results look like a big traffic light with a fair sprinkling of reds, ambers and greens. Notable greens … the Ladies 3s win a whopping 11-0 over Banbury … the Rustlers win 8-1 against Surbiton … the Ladies 1As win 7-0 at Woking … the Ladies 2As win 6-1 against Phoenix and Ranelagh

… I’ve been informed that for once Tally did not win the Ladies 2s DOTD award this went to newcomer Sarah Allum for squealing like a girl when the oppo threw an ariel to her side of the pitch (look I just report the news OK – any questions ask OJ she’s training to be a journalist).

… on Sunday there was cup drama with a 4-4 thriller for the Mens 2s vs East Grinstead. As they lost I guess this was after penalty strokes as I confess I didn’t stay until the end.

… Cup wins for both the U18 Boys and Girls and a Plate win for the U16s saw a successful day for the Next Generation

… England Hockey launch their new identity built around Passion, Speed and Respect, a 5 year Adidas kit deal and a new heraldic logo featuring three lions on a shirt. You can find out more at the not unsurprisingly named http://www.passionspeedrespect.com/ website and see many of our current internationals from the performance squad looking all sleek and moody as they model the new kit.

… The Euro Hockey League KO 16 draw is tomorrow … find out who the Mens 1s will face in Rotterfam where we’re all going for our Easter holidays

… the deadline for discounted Club Dinner tickets has been extended to this weekend. They are selling fast so please get them from your captain, team social sec or direct from Hannah and Tino if you don’t want to be disappointed and miss the Christmas Party to end all Christmas parties (and given it comes so early in the Christmas party season it may well do that for many of you).
