M1: Brooklands MU 3 Reading 2

By Reading Hockey Club • Nov 26th, 2009 • Category: M1, Match Reports

An early start saw us travel up to Manchester again this weekend. Bowden last week, Brooklands this week.
With a number of people unavailable due to work and England Indoor, we again bolstered our ranks with Brian Vogues, Jack Hardy and Ali Parkes.

Brooklands had the better of the first half and took the lead with a scrappy corner goal. Despite some good passages of play from us, we weren’t consistent enough and went into half time a goal down. We were much brighter in the second half and dominated for long periods. Warren scored another stroke (after Saturdays) to get us back on level terms although we surrendered the lead again moments later with counter attack goal.
Chris Newman scored to bring us back on level terms and we pushed for a final goal but couldn’t break through.
In extra time a break away counter attack led to a corner for Brooklands which they duly scored to go through to the next round.

It was disappointing to lose, but a good opportunity for a young group to play premier league opposition. We’ll take heart from dominating for periods although it’s clear there are many tings we must do better when we play them in the league after Christmas.
