Indoor Success: Men Make Finals; Ladies Promoted; International help England Win
By Reading Hockey Club • Jan 18th, 2010 • Category: Home PageA superb weekend of indoor EHL hockeys sees the Men make the National Indoor finals once again and the Ladies promoted into Indoor Premier from EHL Division 1 for their shot at the finals next season.
The Men were always going to find it tough with our internationals in Poland helping England earn promotion to the top tier and qualify for the 2011 World Cup. The boys only won one of their three matches this weekend defeating Beeston 4-2, whilst losing to St Albans (4-5), Loughborough Students (4-5) and East Grinstead (5-12). this crucial win was enough to see them take the 4th qualification spot at the expense of Beeston in next weekend’s finals. Table topping defending champions East Grinstead will be the team to beat, with Loughborough Students also looking strong. Surbiton qualified in 3rd to make up the finalists. The revamped competion now takes place over 2 days at the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham, but all the Men’s games take place on Sunday. Hope to see many of you there to cheer on the boys and enjoy this highlight of the Indoor season.
The Ladies have stormed to promotion from Division 1 with 2 games left to play after a perfect 6 wins out of 6 in the opening weekend. 8 points clear of their nearest rival they cannot be caught whatever happens next weekend so will take the Division 1 title and more importantly their opportunity to play in the top division and try and make the finals in future. A brilliant performance from the squad.
