Vets: Reading 4 Amersham & Chalfont 0

Wessex SuperVets Fixtures Alliance.
The Vets played their first game for six weeks; yes, it seemed a long time since 12th December and it showed in our league match against Amersham & Chalfont on Saturday 23rd January
They were fortunate to play at Sonning Lane, so they certainly couldn’t blame the pitch for the standard of play at the start of the game. The good news was that Amersham & Chalfont were no better, and within six minutes Tim Mann had put them one up. Reading then gradually settled down and dominated the rest of the game. Two short corners were converted by Ada Robertson and being three up at half time the Vets went into ‘cruise’ mode for most of the second half
It was evident that six players had attended the Burn’s Night celebrations at the Club on the previous evening, but the team finally found the energy to put together an excellent final attack which led to Richard Higginson scoring with a strong reverse hit.
Four nil, but they will need to play better if they want to win the league again
