L1A: Reading 0 Epsom 2
By Reading Hockey Club • Feb 27th, 2006 • Category: L1A, Match ReportsReading entertained 2nd placed Epsom on Saturday and despite some good play
they were unable to come away with a point. Reading started the game
without Nicky West & Rachael Marriott who were on 1st team duty but had been
joined by Kate Mansur from the 1st team following injury and Yvonne Craven
from the 2nd team. Reading started the better team and had a number a good
attacks but could not find a way past the visiting keeper. Epsom forced
their first short corner in the 25th minute and an unstoppable shot from
Champness flew into the net to give Epsom the lead. Reading continued to
defend well with good tackling from Michelle Brandwood and Mansur and they
prevented Epsom from adding to their lead from open play. However another
short corner on 41 minutes saw the ball switched and the home defence were
unable to keep out the loose ball. Reading continued to search for a way
through but their play was often one-dimensional and they were slow to
release the ball to team mates to set up quick attacks. Man of the match
voting was well spread with Brandwood wining by 1 vote. Next week Reading
travel to leaders Staines
