Olympic Medallists visit Summer Camp

The club recently ran 2 successful summer hockey camps either side of the Olympics.

Highlights from the ‘Olympic Prologue’ camp included Great Britain international Maddie Hinch coaching the goalies, and an Olympic-themed fancy dress day, of which Team GB was very heavily supported!

During the ‘Olympic Epilogue’ camp in August, the players were treated to 2 surprise visits from 2 of Reading’s own Olympic Bronze Medallists from London, Beth Storry and Alex Danson.

The girls took time to sign autographs, have photos taken with their medals, and answer questions from the players. This truly captured the legacy of London 2012, by inspiring the next generation of hockey players at the camp. We hope to see some of these young players participating in future Olympic Games!

New Young Leaders trained during the Summer

Alongside the summer camps, the club took the opportunity to run 2 Young Leaders courses, run by Bev Thompson and Phil Sanders. These courses are designed to train young people in the basics of leadership, coaching, umpiring and management in hockey. A total of 16 Young Leaders attended the course, and we look forward to seeing them continue their work and learning within the Colts section of the club throughout the coming seasons.
