Saturday 29th September saw another instalment of the long running fierce rivalry between two of England’s top club over the last decade – Reading HC vs Cannock HC.

On a breezy day in the Midlands it was the Reading that started the brightest. Streams of flowing attacks harassed the Cannock defence and lead to an inevitable breakthrough from one of RHC’s new boys, Darren Cheesman. An unflappable Cheesman neatly slotted a reverse stick shot low into the goal to beat London 2012 Olympian James Fair in the home team’s goal.

This lead was short lived and from a fortuitous short corner rebound the Staffordshire team pulled back to 1-1.

After a few key tactical changes to negate the Cannock threat from their defensive outlet, the Ding were quickly back on top of the match again.

Between the two 25 yard lines Reading were increasingly dominant and only struggled in the final third of the pitch, where some easy chances were going begging.

With brave defending and solid goalkeeping from Fair, the relieved home team closed the match out 1-1.

Although not the 3 points that Reading were after it was another strong performance from the reigning Champions, and sets up a big game this weekend against Southgate at Sonning Lane.
