Mixed FortunesBy Reading Hockey Club • Nov 21st, 2012 • Category: Events, Home Page, Match, News
Reading’s premier league teams had mixed fortunes this weekend as they both reached the half way point of the league season.
First the men travelled to league leaders Beeston on Saturday for another hard fought encounter between the two Euro Hockey League sides. Reading put in one of their best performances of the season so far, but could not put away their chances, despite long periods of sustained pressure on the Beeston goal. Their hosts who have been flying high in the league this year absorbed the Reading pressure, and then gave an object lesson in finishing to run out 4-1 winners of a very even game. The loss leaves Reading in an uncharacteristic 8th place – but with confidence from the performance that the wins they need to climb the table will come. Photo thanks to Ian A Wood.
On Sunday the Ladies continued their recent good form with a 3-1 win at Sutton Coldfield. Goals from Helen Richardson, Jess Brooker and Enna Thomas saw them home with a result that moves them 5th in the table and pushing for that all important top 4 play off spot.
More details of the game can be found in Helen Richardson’s match report.
