National Cup Success for Reading as U18 and U15 Boys Take Titles
By Reading Hockey Club • May 21st, 2007 • Category: Home Page, News, U16 Boys, U18 BoysIt was another successful weekend for Reading HC this weekend as the finals of the National Cup competitions, sponsored by the Man Group, reached their conclusions. Reading were represented by their U18 and U15 boys teams and both returned home with more silverware for Reading’s overflowing trophy cabinet.
The fantastic talents of the Boys U18 side were widely tipped to do well and they made no mistakes winning all three of their games to take the title with maximum points. They beat Stourport 3-1, Canterbury 5-0 and finally Beeston 4-3. In this final game Reading had raced into a 4-1 lead shortly after half time but two quick goals from Will Torr threatened a a come back from the Midlanders but Reading held on. Alex Land and Dave Beckett top scored with three goals each.
The U15 Boys won more narrowly. They drew 1-1 with runners up Beeston on the Saturday and with both they and Beeston beating the other two sides the title was decided on goal difference with Reading taking it thanks to their superior goal difference having beaten Havant 4-1 and Team Bath Buccaneers 3-0. Dominic Stamford top scored with a goal in each game.

There was a Reading flavour to the presentations as Reading’s Simon Mason and Simon Mantell were involved in the presentation no doubt as thrilled to see the future of the club in such good form as the boys would be to receive their trophies from their heroes they aspire to emulate one day.
This weekend represents further success for the club and in particular the efforts of all the volunteers and coaches involved in running Reading’s Next Generation youth section under the leadership of Terry Walden. With hundreds of junior members taking part in Sunday sessions and the successful introduction of the Academy sessions on Tuesday evenings for the development of elite youngsters Reading’s future looks to be built on excellent and promising foundations.
Well done to both teams and everyone involved!
