M3: Camberley 2 Reading 4
By Reading Hockey Club • Sep 19th, 2007 • Category: M3, Match ReportsThe story of this fine game of hockey began late on Friday night. In preparation for the game I was heading to a friends house nearer the game. During this journey I received a mobile phone call from Tim Lavers.
With a level of elequance usually reserved for kings and the speaker of the house, I was asked if it was possible for a lift to be had to the game in the morning. A very valid excuse was given, (Tim wanted to partake in a few more strong continental beverages) so I agreed.
On the morning of the game I set off bright an early to pick up my stella loving buddy, only to be confronted by a military parade which delayed the rendevous. Regardless, I was guided around the obstruction with the aid of hands free.
The journey to the game began (albeit late) with the aid of a postcode and tomtom. Shortly after reaching the postcode we realised we were no where near the rapidly approaching game! A quick phone call to Kiff got us back on track with a roadname. Tomtom then worked, although I did manage to miss a turning we arrived with 30 minutes to spare before the 12:00 pushback.
WRONG..
Seems the time on the original e-mail was incorrect. Lavers and I hastily changed and warmed up. This means our recollection of that part of the game was not too hot.
Rob broke himself then took up umpiring duty, whilst lavers dutifully took his place. He went on to play hockey for the rest of the game. Somewhere in defense. Along with the rest of our players!
Highlights of the game were as such:
Being informed to cover up my white top whilst on the sidelines, when the players own team had 6 substitutes with tops the same as his.
Me missing an open goal.
Us scoring 5 goals
Them scoring 1 goal at some point I think.
Working on my tan.
Ultimately we won the game despite not looking great! I got dick of the day, and somehow I think Barry got man of the match?
Talent was displayed in the bar as I whipped Daisy at pool, then lost in a fine battle of the titans to Kiff!
The journey home was totally boring with nothing further to report. Anyone who says anything else is a liar!
Love Posh.
