Amsterdam BoundBy Reading Hockey Club • Mar 22nd, 2013 • Category: Events, Home Page, Match, News
Although their focus will be firmly on the crunch game against Beeston at Sonning Lane this Sunday, and the result they need to qualify for the Championship Play-offs in April, Reading’s Men are also preparing for the next stage of the Euro Hockey League (EHL) – the so called KO16 round which will be held at Amsterdam H&BC over the Easter weekend.
At this stage the competition becomes pure knock out, and Reading’s opponents in the last 16 are Dutch league leaders Rotterdam – the match will be played on Friday 29th March at 2:30pm local time. Reading have faced Rotterdam twice in previous EHL competition, each time losing by the odd goal, and will be looking to redress the balance and take their place in the last 8.
A win against Rotterdam would set up a last 8 tie against either Lisnagarvy (Ireland) or KHC Dragons (Belgium) on Easter Sunday – and if the latter then it would be the third year in a row that the two teams met in the last 8, with one win a piece.
Two years ago Reading went on to win the bronze medals – the only English club to have reached the final 4 in the 7 years of EHL competition so far. The KO4 stage will be played in May, hosted by one of the qualifying clubs…
The blue army will be out in force supporting the Reading boys – for those who are interested in going along it’s not too late to plan your trip! All the information about the competition, getting tickets, schedule and live streaming of all games from Amsterdam is available free through the EHL website so there’s no excuse for missing a beat this Easter weekend!
