Playoffs BeckonBy Reading Hockey Club • Mar 27th, 2013 • Category: Events, Home Page, M1, Match, News
In a closely fought game, Reading went ahead in the 29th minute when Simon Mantell finished off a superb solo run with an unstoppable finish high into the Beston net to lead 1-0 at the interval. Although Beeston came out strong at the start of the second half, and grabbed the equaliser through Chris Proctor, Reading stuck to their game plan and their patience was rewarded when Craig Peel made it 2-1 following up a penalty corner after 63 minutes.
In a scuffle following the goal, Beeston’s keeper George Pinner and Reading’s Darren Cheesman both received yellow cards to set up a frantic final few minutes, but Reading held on to claim the 3 points and move into third place in the table.
Unless Canterbury beat Cannock AND East Grinstead beat Southgate by 13 clear goals then Reading will qualify and have the chance to retain their Championship title.
Meanwhile Reading Ladies, who have already qualified for the Investec Championship Play-offs on 20th/21st April, lost out to the weather with Sutton Coldfield being unable to travel – the game will now be re-scheduled.
