Mens 1s Impressive Run
By Reading Hockey Club • Dec 5th, 2007 • Category: Home Page, M1, NewsCongratulations to the Mens 1s who have completed an impressive start to season, going undefeated in all competitions so far. This record includes a 100% record in the Slazenger EHL Premier Division, scoring 35 goals and only conceding 12 in the process to give them a division best goal difference of +23 as well. With maximum 30 points so far the Blues are currently 9 points ahead of East Grinstead and Cannock in 2nd and 3rd and will take some catching in the second half of the season. League resumes on 10 February 2008 at Sonning Lane (14:00). Their undefeated cup run also puts them in the quarter finals of that competition where they will next take on Doncaster at Sonning Lane on 24 February. All this despite missing Jonty Clarke and Simon and Richard Mantell who are with Great Britain for most of this season.
Finally their dramatic penalty stroke competition against Crefelder sees Reading into the draw, with the dramatic celebrations seen below, for the next round of the EuroHockey League with the draw due to take place on 19th December at 5pm.
The next task for the squad however will be the EHL Indoor League which take place at The Glades Lesiure Centre in Kidderminster of the weekends of the 15/16 December and 12/13 January. The aim will be to make it to the Indoor finals at the NIA for the third year running…and hopefully this year get past East Grinstead to get to the final!
Well done to every involved in the first team squad and management on an impressive first half to the season and we hope the success continues into 2008.
