Reading Mens 2As 6 Spencer 2By Reading Hockey Club • Oct 20th, 2013 • Category: M2A, Match Reports
Saturday 12th October saw Reading 2as looking to maintain their 100% record and stay top of the league. Reading had strong team for this game despite the absentees of Bishop, still injured from the first game of the season, and Ryde, washing his hair.
Reading took some time settle into the game and withstood some early Spencer pressure. Eventually Reading took a hold the game and started to create chances resulting in three unanswered goals. This included the usual Short Corner goal from Cooke. It also saw the loss of Kimber due to injury. This was later diagnosed as a sprained little toe.
Spencer managed to claw one goal back just before half time with a great finish on the volley.
After and inspired half time team talk from Barber, Reading looked to step up the pressure and rack up some goal. After a lob flick from Benjamin off a Short Corner was easily saved he was able to put away the rebound under the jumping Spencer keeper.
Spencer grabbed a second goal through anti-skill by topping the ball 2 meters in the air bemusing the Reading keeper who missed the ball.
After this set back Reading scored a fantastic free flowing team goal and also a rare open play goal from Barber.
Reading then conceded penalty stroke after Benjamin sat on the ball whilst trying to make a goal line clearance. The resulting stroke was easily saved by the Reading keeper when it struggled to reach the goal.
Next week see Reading travel away to Wimbledon.
