Thank you to the Volunteers

By Reading Hockey Club • Apr 16th, 2014 • Category: Home Page, News

I want to pass on to all the Volunteers the huge number of people who came up to me from England Hockey, the teams and the Spectators, wanting to pass on their thanks and congratulations to the club who, yet again, facilitated a great couple of weekends – here are some of the comments :

  • We love coming to Reading as it is always a friendly helpful club
  • You couldn’t do enough for us – thank you
  • As always a great weekend at Reading – you even order the sun for the Ladies
  • From England Hockey – The volunteers have been fantastic, we really couldn’t do this event without them
  • From the Tournament Director – Thanks to the Ball boy and girls – they were fantastic
  • Reading really know how to run these events, nothing was too much trouble and when people asked stepped up to help.
  • A few special mentions from me as the RHC Event Manager:

  • Thank you to the cricketers who let us use the nonplaying area of the grass, and also to the weather as well for ensuring that there was very little / almost no damage to the grass!!
  • A huge Thanks goes Tim Hamilton and his Car-parkers, for their time out in the field, who we tried to rotate around as much as possible, we know it is not the nicest of jobs but EH gave you all high praise and were incredibly grateful.
It was made all the harder when volunteers didn’t turn up or decide they didn’t like that job and want to do something nicer and just walk off! I am grateful to all those who didn’t take that attitude.
  • Thanks to the Catering and bar crew for all their effort, being one of the first to arrive and last to leave, a lot of their efforts went unnoticed by many people.
  • And finally to the rest of the Playoffs Committee – Rachael Marriott, Rachel Mann, Judith Barton, Tim Hamilton and Chris Davey, (not forgetting Sue Newman, Lucy Scott, Grace Lawes and Tony Cook) – who all worked tirelessly to make sure their areas of responsibility were successful. No doubt I have forgotten someone, so thank you to you as well!!

For those who know me, they will know that I don’t like taking the credit for anything, but for once I will actually pat myself on the back – for two reasons:

    1. For having a great team of people helping me –many hours were spent sorting all of the above out and I thank them for making my role on each of the days a lot easier.
    2. I will also pat myself on the back for making the decision 20 years ago to join this fantastic club which I am incredibly proud of.

It is the members who make a club, and the members who came down and really helped these past few weeks did the club proud –Well done and Thank you.

    1. A very well deserved pat on the back Liz! As a volunteering family we really enjoyed it and I think it’s true to say the little Mitchell’s are growing up with blue blood!
