Rejects End of Season Report
By Reading Hockey Club • Jun 18th, 2008 • Category: Match Reports, NewsWithdrawn from London League Division Eight
With player numbers at ridiculously high levels during the 2006/07 season, we decided to enter a new team, at the very bottom of the London League. The Rejects were founded on the premise that any players ‘rejected’ from their squad, would be moped up to pad out the core of players placed in that pool. That core was comprised of semi-vets, not old enough to play vets and not good enough to play Rustlers! Steve and Tony were well up for it!
Come the start of the season, and the departure of over eighty players and the pickings were looking slim. Squads suddenly dropped from 17-20 to 12-13. The Rejects struggled for numbers and actually relied on players doubling up to fulfil fixtures. They even loaned the Rustlers a fixture or two (which the Rustlers won)!
Before Christmas even approached, it was apparent that the Rejects, were going to have to be rejected, consigned to the scrap heap, a future phoenix may appear from the proverbial flames, but probably not for next season. Huge thanks to all those who played Rejects, and for Posh, who probably played in every one of their fixtures!
