Great day, supporting a great Cause

On Thursday 31st May , the Hockey club hosted the Operation Endure team of ladies for Hockey 4 Hero's.

Throughout the tour the squad of 25, two of which were our own Zoe Yates and Aurora Mears, started each day with a physical exercise set by a military instructor including log races, assault courses, interval runs and other physical challenges that will push the ladies to their physical and mental limits
Following the physical challenges the squad then played up to 4 games of hockey each day against teams from across the armed forces and local clubs..

When they arrived at the Club on day they had just completed a 3 mile log run up the Long Walk at Windsor. They then had to play their 20,21 and 22nd games in the very muggy weather.

They won all three games on the day .
The first game was against Reading University and came away 8-0 winners, the second game was against Sonning and although it was a closer game, they still came away with a 5-0 win.

With Simon Mason on Commentary the Reading Ladies team, managed by Judith Ross, pushed the Hero's team to limit, and the game ended 1-0 to the Hero's.

Thankfully the torrential rain held off till after the last game finished!

Thanks to Sam Ward, Amy Tennant and Tom Carson for coming along to support.

The club would also like to thank all who helped on the day,:
Random and H for manning the hugely popular Cake stall,
Will Mann for the music during the day,
Clare Maidlow and Sarah Rooke for sorting out the ball patrol and help running the raffle. Judith and crew for running the Hungry Hut
Fran Harvey for organising
Radar for umpiring the last game with Liz.

Plus all the supporters who came along to help make the day memorable for the Hero's team.

The H4H team and support team, would like to thank all those who came along to support their cause and who have been encouraging them throughout the day and week.
