Reading manager Chris Davey will be demanding his side keep their foot firmly on the pedal for the whole game when they take on Cannock in NOW: Pensions League match at Sonning Lane
on Saturday (4.30pm).
He and coach Andy Watts were left stunned last Sunday when Blues raced into a four-goal lead in 15 minutes before losing 5-4 to a Brooklands MU side who previously had not won a game this season.
Davey said: “We started the game playing as well as we have all season and were well worth our 4-0 lead.
“But we took our foot off the gas a bit and let them back into the game. They (Brooklands) grew in momentum with each goal, but we should still have been professional enough to control the game and press them back. Instead, a few silly mistakes crept in and the latter part of the first half was probably the worst we’ve played all year.”
Davey added: “It was a bizarre game. We have played so well in patches, and so badly at other times. We have to bounce back and remember the good passages of play.”
Blues are still missing injured pair Simon Mantell and Timmy Lewis, while Ireland skipper John Jackson is not available tomorrow, but is in the squad for the National Cup third round tie at Canterbury on Sunday.
Squads : Saturday
Alexander, R Mantell, Springham, Carter-Keall, Atkins, Newman, Shingles, Clee, Clarke, Carson, Boon, Whelan, Freedman, Heaver, Scott, Codling.
Sunday: Pereira, R Mantell, Springham, Jackson, Atkins, Carter-Keall, Newman, Shingles, Clee, Carson, Boon, Whelan, Codling, Scott, Heaver, Freedman.

Ladies
Also looking to bounce back will be Reading Women when they face University of Birmingham at Sonning Lane on Sunday (1.30pm).
Blues were beaten 4-1 at home by Holcombe last Saturday after conceding four first-half goals.
Coach Merijn van Willigen said: “The girls need to learn from their mistakes, but the second half was encouraging. We effectively won it and I thought deservedly so. But we were all gutted with the result and we are determined to bounce back on Sunday.”
England captain Kate Richardson-Walsh returned to the Reading team last Saturday for the first time this season, but leading scorer Alex Danson was out injured and she is not expected back this weekend.
Van Willigen added: “We did miss Alex as she provides the X-factor, but it would have been too much to expect her to score four goals against Holcombe.”
Squad: Sarah Ellis, Abi Harper, Kate Richardson-Walsh, Leah Wilkinson, Tina Evans, Elie Barnes, Emma Thomas, Susie Gilbert, Ashlie Caddick, Sarah Jones, Becky Halle, Ellie Cockburn, Charlotte Daly, Olivia Saligoi, Elizabeth Hunt, Hayley Munt.
