Reading Hockey Camps – Summer 2014

Next camp:

Summer 2014 will see a change to the Reading Hockey Camps. Andy Watts has taken over the running of the camps and should now be the main point of contact for all players keen on joining future camps. Andy has been a member of the club for over 15 years and is very excited to oversee the next generation of players coming through the club – “The camps are a great way for young players to experience a taste of hockey at Reading, in both a fun and challenging environment.”

There are a few changes, including the introduction of an Online Booking Form, New Coaches, Adidas support for the camps and revised structure to the day – all of which can be followed on the @ReadingHCCamps Twitter page!

Upcoming camps
The dates for Summer Camps 2014 are the same as previously advertised and the two varieties of camp will also stay the same.
Classic Camps are aimed at players of all abilities aged 7-16.
May 27th -28th, July 28th – 30th, August 11th – 13th, August 25th-27th

Performance Camps are aimed at those who have reached JAC level or above aged 13+.
May 29th, July 31st, August 14th, August 28th

Goalkeepers will also receive specialized coaching and are welcome to both camps.

The Booking Form will now be online to make the booking process as easy as possible for all players. The form can be completed now for the summer or on a camp by camp basis. Parents are asked to enter the player’s details and then indicate which camps their son/daughter will be attending. Payment can be made via cheque (made payable to RHC) or via Bank Transfer, as detailed on the form found here – Summer 2014 Booking Form

The cost of camps is as follows:
Classic Camps – £40 for one day, £75 for two days, £110 for three days
Performance Camps – £40 (one day only)

Players are recommended to attend the full camp, but are also welcome if only certain days are possible. If this is the case, then please let Andy know which days you will be attending.

Structure of the Day
The day will start with registration at 9.30am and conclude at 4.00pm. The structure of each day will vary depending on age, ability and also the weather! However, all groups should be there ready to register at 9.30am.

Each camp will provide a combination of:
• Individual skill development
• Position specific techniques
• Decision making
• Speed, agility & movement analysis
• Video Review

What do I need to bring with me? All players attending day courses are required to bring a packed lunch. They should bring their own personal sports equipment including stick, trainers/astro shoes, shin pads & gum shields. It is also advised that players bring suitable protection for all weather conditions – sun cream, hat, waterproofs, etc. Players bring valuables with them at their own risk and wherever possible are advised not to do so.

How are groups allocated? All players are divided into groups according to age and ability. Players will be constantly assessed by their group coach; enabling quick and correct decisions to be made on groupings. This will maximize enjoyment and progression whilst minimizing injury risk.

Who coaches on the courses? All courses will be led by Reading HC 1st XI players as well as experienced and qualified coaches.

How do I book? To book a player on to any Reading Hockey Camp, a Summer 2014 Booking Form should be completed online. Once the form is completed, the payment made and the button is clicked you can be sure that we have all the information necessary, including emergency contact details and any relevant medical issues. An automatic confirmation will be sent to you.

How do I pay? Please make either a BACS transfer online or send a cheque to the details shown on the booking form. The BACS transfer should use the player’s surname and month of camp attending as a reference.

What information will I get once I have successfully placed a booking? Once you have registered your child/children, you will see a message confirming the child’s registration details. If you wish to make any changes before the course please contact us directly on and advise us of the alterations.

Can I provide feedback? Feedback is very important to us in raising our standards and making the camps as enjoyable as possible for your children. We would welcome your thoughts on the whole process from booking through to how the camp was delivered and the facilities.

How do I get a refund or make a cancellation? In the event of course cancellation by Reading Hockey Camps, all monies will be refunded. If the Player cancels less than 7 days from the start of the course there will be 75% refund. If the Player cancels more than 7 days from the start of the course there will be a full refund.
