Junior Hockey Coaching Camps

Next camp:
17th/18th February 2014. This camp will be held outdoors at Sonning Lane.

2014 sees Reading Hockey Club (in association with the Berkshire Hockey Association – BHA) running an exciting new programme of hockey camps for junior players between 8 and 18 years old.

  • Our ‘Classic’ camps are aimed at all players, with a good balance of core skills, game principles, some advanced tactics, and lots and lots of fun! These are 2 day courses in half-terms, and 3 day courses during the Summer holidays.
  • Our ‘Performance’ camps are for those who need that little bit extra, aimed at those over 14 years old and have played at JAC or higher in the England Single System. These are just 1 day courses, with specific themes for the day to focus on high quality performance.
  • All senior coaches will hold UKCC Coaching Qualifications, and we aim for a staff/player ratio of 1:12. We also offer specialised Goalkeeper coaching on some days (please enquire for more information).
  • In general, the Junior ‘Classic’ Camps will run from 9:30am to 4:30pm; Senior and Performance Camps will run from 9am to 4pm – but always check details for the specific camp booked.
  • Unless otherwise advertised pricing for Camps will be – Day Rate £40; 2 Day Camp £75; 3 Day Camp £110. At present we can only accept cash or cheques for payment (cheques should be made payable to “Reading Hockey Club”). Camps will be held at Reading Hockey Club – Sonning Lane RG4 6ST.

Important information for Reading Hockey Camps

Groupings

For each camp, we recommend that the players attend the outlined camp that is suitable for them, explained below. Within these groups, we will have sub-groups that will allow us to place the players in appropriate leveled groups within their age-groups. Unless there are extreme or special cases, we will try to keep to the groups. Our coaches are informed that each player has to be challenged in order for them to get the best out of our camps. If our coaches feel it is necessary to move players to other groups, then we may do so.

Senior Camps – All those in the U14s age group and older
Junior Camps – All those in the U12s age group and younger (down to 8 y/o)
Performance Camps – Performance camp is now aimed at those players over 14 who have reached JAC level or higher.

Day Programme

Below is our outline of the hockey programme at the camps. This is subject to change, but gives you an idea of how we work throughout the day.

Breaks:

  • There will be a couple of breaks in each day (see typical schedule below) to give participants the chance for a snack and drink – food will not be provided.
  • There will also be ‘entertainment’ included in the breaks, although we will be making sure the players get their valuable rest!
  • For our Performance camps, we will be running Presentations and Video Analysis sessions during the breaks to give the players an insight into how performance athletes train, prepare and live.
