So you want to watch some top quality hockey - here’s all the information you need to know about coming to watch games at RHC.

What can I watch?

Check out our This Week page for details of what you can come and watch this week.  this is a weekly diary of all goings on at RHC including details of social activities, and a diary of all home games for that week.  It also lets you know when the next 1XI games are, and provides a direct feed for FixturesLive with a full listing of home and away fixtures and results.  It is a one stop shop for finding out information on the very latest fixtures and results.

If you want to know what fixtures are happening in the future then you can go to the teams section and click on a team page.  This page will show the FixturesLive fixture list for that team for this season so you can plan ahead.

Our Events section will show and upcoming major hosting events that we will be hosting at Reading Hockey Club.  This season they include:

Do I have to buy a ticket?

We don’t sell tickets for our league and cup games but we do sell tickets for major hosted events.  The event details page for major hosted events will have details of prices and how to buy tickets for that event.

However because it is an expensive business running two top flight teams and providing the infrastructure to support 15 adult teams and one of the largest youth sections in the country we do ask that you find a way to make a contribution to the club on your visit.  Ways include:

  • Purchasing a programme on entry to the ground.  At EHL and Cup games there will be programmes for sale.  Not only will buying one help contribute to the cost of the game but each is filled with useful information on who is playing, and articles about the club and players
  • Buy lots of drink and food form the bar - we know we’ll have to twist your arm on this one!
  • Give us a donation - however small - to reflect the enjoyment you got out of the day and what you think our hockey was worth!

So there’s refreshments available?

Yes we have a fully stocked bar that sells a range of alcoholic and soft drinks and also warm beverages.  Food can also be ordered at the bar.  Please note however that the bar can become very busy at popular games and so the food service in particular may not always be available.  To help with this at many Men’s EHL games the Green Goddess is available.  This is an outdoor catering facility selling food, snacks and warm drinks right next to the pitch.

Please remember if you buy a drink at the bar and intend to drink it outside be fantastic and ask for plastic!

What about travelling to Sonning Lane?

Our ground at Sonning Lane isn’t terribly close to public transport.  There is an infrequent bus service that stops at the end of the lane, or there is a scenic walk along the River Thames from the train station to Sonning.  However it is most practical to get to the ground by car.  We have plenty of car parking available, and an overflow car park so you shouldn’t have any problems finding a spot even on the busiest match days (though you may have a bit further to walk if you come late!).

May we remind you not to leave valuables in your vehicle, and please don’t leave any items, valuable or otherwise on view in your vehicle.  The club has a variety of measures in palce to increase car security at the ground but we cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage sustained at the ground.  Be safe and don’t but temptation in thieves way!

Is there seating available?

Yes we have a 300 seat uncovered stand.  However please note that at EHL and Cup games seats some seats are received for doners who contributed to the cost of the stand and at hosted events seats may be reserved for accredited personnel.  This may reduce the number of seats available or even mean there is no seating available to casual spectators at some matches.  Any seating that isn’t reserved is available on a first come first served basis - so come early if you want a seat.

Don’t worry if the stand is full as there is plenty of standing room and we provide railway sleepers to give a slightly raised view - most club members prefer to stand!

If you have any special requirements however and it is important that you have a seat or need assistance in ensuring your view then please contact us to let us know in advance so we can reserve you a place in the stand.

Can I take photos?

But of course!  We know you’ll want to capture the dramatic pitch action to take away with you.  Please consider donating some of your snaps to our gallery - of course we’ll give you credit.  If you intend to sell your photos commercially consider making a small donation to the club.  To take photos for commercial use at major hosted events you may require press accreditation - see the information on that particular event for details.

Anything else?

If you need any further information or we haven’t answered your query here get in touch and we will do our best to help.

We look forward to seeing you at Sonning Lane soon!
