Rascals win good natured match against Oxford 9 7-0
Rascals keep up their promotion challenge with well controlled 7-0 win over Oxford 9
Reading Rascals put in another excellent team performance to maintain their promotion challenge in MBBO Div8 West.
This weeks match away in darkest Oxfordshire, mainly dark because of the appalling floodlighting at Headington School, the Rascals were in control from the start and never really looked in danger of dropping points. Good spells of possession and excellent distribution saw Reading play the sort of controlled patient hockey coach John Sayer has been directing the team towards for the last few weeks.
A 3-0 half time lead was extended to 7-0 before the lights totally gave up with less than a minute to play!
Chris Wright was really on fire scoring a hat trick of well struck goals from the top of the D but could have had a hat full more had the posts been 6 inches wider and the keeper not playing the game of his life! Well timed goals from Oli Sayer and Mark Chapman and another from Matt Wright put icing on what were excellent moves.
There were some really excellent moves down the right wing with Shashank and Oli Sayer combining well and these two were often able to cut in from the wing along the base line to expose the defence and create good scoring opportunities. If the final pass had ended up on a Reading stick the score would have easily been into double figures.
Credit to Oxford who were fielding some young players they never gave up or stopped playing until the final whistle.
