The come-back Queens!
What a roller coaster of a game that was!
After what seemed an interminable drive through the heart of London and all the back streets we finally arrived at Tulse Hill and Dulwich, and unfolded ourselves from the cars.
After losing the previous week we were determined to put in a good show.
Our changing room was one of the public changing rooms, which made a briefing session with laptop unmanageable, so we had the briefing in a stairwell - which at least gave everyone a good view of the screen - cinema style!
Thankfully we were on the best pitch - with a really good surface and enabling good ball pace.
The first half started off poorly, with the team seemingly half asleep and unable to connect passes. THD were fleeter of foot and quicker stepping to the ball and scored twice in relatively quick succession. 2-0 down looked like an uphill struggle, but suddenly the team came alive and fought back. Our reward was to sneak a goal right before half-time so only 2-1 down at the break.
All to play for!
A pep talk at half-time about pace, verve and will to win, and the second half got under way.
What followed can only be described as beautiful hockey. Slick passing, quick 1 to 1s, silky runs with weighted passes - a transformation from the first half. Suddenly we had scored 2 more goals and were 3-2 up! Victory was in our grasp.
But sadly no fairy tale ending, THD came back strong, realising the game was slipping away, and put sustained pressure on our D. Eventually an attacker got free and scored with just 7 minutes or so left on the clock. A 3-3 result.
BUT the team showed tremendous spirit in fighting back from a 2 goal deficit, and played the best hockey of the season so much to take pride in.
