Ladies secure a spot at Lee Valley!! Finals here we come!

Come and support at Lee Valley on May 5th!

Reading faced their latest opponents Redland in the EH Cup competition championships semi final!

With belief and confidence the ladies knew the task at hand! Reading started strong, immediately pressing and tag teaming every Redland ball. Redland weaved in and out and made to the D imminently to which a strong flat tackle from Emma laid off to Jess cleared the danger. A quick pass upfield for a super speedy Scotty saw a one on one from the keeper and strike on target heard the back baord roar... did we mention we are only 63 seconds in!

At every opportunity with sustained attacks especially with the forwards causing all sorts of problems for Redland the team grew in confidence looking to pressure the goal and the Redland defense. Soon the continued pressure resulted in a goal from Lucy, and with Reading dominating the first half and with one more goal followed in quick succession with Haz making the scoreline at 3-0 at half-time.

After the break, Redland had nothing to lose and threw everything they had at Reading, looking for the through ball and quick counter attacks to their forwards. At every opportunity, Mini D and Big D were there channeling and taking the ball. Some strong suport play from Anna, Shannon and Holly helped move the ball aware from Danger. Reading broke down the midfield time after time, making it look easy and Jess Mann found herself somewhere inside the D and kindly slotted the ball home!

Redland kept coming and tried to sustain the pressure but our back line held strong with Fran performing a couple of great saves, Big D and Shannon doing sterling work as Fullbacks, and Mini D blocking off the attacks down the left and blocking all Redland attack. Eventually their hard work paid off and they won a short corner.... nothing gained except a break down of play, a foot, another short... imagine this for 5 attempts! On the 5th time of asking, the ball fell sweetly to Redland who took the ball well and a quick hard strike, came off the post and went in. 5-1 .

Reading took full advantage of the recent goal and gradually started to control the game, whilst Redland still in awe of the goal moments earlier Reading counter attacked with Lizzie M storming up midfield and Peggy running attacks that weaved through the Redland defensive lines it was only a matter of time before a final goal came. The seventh goal was a beauty, started just inside the Reading half, with quick passes in quick succession leading to a perfectly weighted cross Haz to Ellie to cream the ball, only for the keeper to tap it onto LC for a tap in . Ellie was unlucky - but the crowd gave her some extra support to keep her going!

The final whistle came - Redland had put on a great performance but were outplayed by a disciplined, quality Reading side who flung sticks and the home crowd roared with elation for the ladies! Lee Valley 5th of May here we come!
