The mighty 3as took on Milton Keynes 2s this afternoon. The team had a taxing warm up chat pitch-side whilst waiting for the previous game on SLS to finish.
Things were not looking great when we watched the MK keeper who had just played for their 1st XI v Sonning on the next door pitch walk into position as keeper for their 2s as well. Then Reading couldn’t get into their dug-out because some poor geezer from the previous game was sitting in there with a busted shoulder and was waiting for an ambulance to arrive. Nonetheless, we managed to move the warm up chat onto the pitch and before we knew it and after a little hit about, it was time for the off!
Within 2 minutes MK had found the back of the Reading net and the 3as had that horrible feeling that maybe it wasn’t going to be their day (perhaps slightly less warm up chat next time?). However, within about 15 minutes Abbie D soon put things right with a fine solo run from midfield into the D where she blasted home a solid equalizer that screamed past the keeper and signalled that we meant business. Just before half time Blanche put the team ahead and early worries were put aside.
A stern half time talk and much discussion about Percy Pigs saw a revitalized side take to the pitch once again. Not really sure about the exact order of things really, but the team romped home with a convincing 5-3 victory, with 2 more goals from Blanche and 1 from Helen.
Highlights of the match, in no particular order, were
All in all it was a good team performance with plenty of great passing and hard work; the youngsters were a credit to the club and proved themselves to be dedicated to the cause and growing in confidence and skill and the oldsters were obviously very good (in parts) and full of good intentions. Oh, and scrap what was said about warm up chat before – it obviously worked and has its merits!
Thanks to Liz Spencer and Jo Newman for umpiring and also to Lucy Scott – our first aider and top notch photographer.

Not much to say except – we went, we played, we lost!

Reading LAdies 3As played Gerrards Cross at Sonning Lane. The game started quite evenly with both teams having a couple of chances which both failed to convert. The 3As then upped the pressure on the Gerrards Cross goal, and were awarded a couple of short corners, and several good chances, some of which were well saved but unfortunately they were unable to convert them. Gerrards Cross came back at the 3As and again both teams created some good chances which were well saved by both goalies, leaving the score 0-0 at half time.
The 3As started the second half very strongly , and were quickly awarded a short corner which unfortunately was not converted. They continued the pressure on the Gerrards Cross goal and Sue scored to make the score 1-0. Gerrards Cross rallied slightly and both teams created some chances which were not converted. Abbie Dixon then doubled the 3As advantage by scoring to make the score 2-0. The 3As forced a good save from the Gerrards Cross goalie, before the 3As goalie was called into action to save a couple of Gerrards Cross attempts on goal. Gerrards Cross continued to increase the pressure on the Reading goal, and scored a goal to make the score 2-1 before being awarded a short corner which they failed to convert. The 3As responded well and Sue scored her second to make the score 3-1. The game ended with both teams having a flurry of chances which neither managed to convert to leave the score 3-1 at full time.
