L4: Sonning 1 Reading 2

By Reading Hockey Club • Nov 17th, 2008 • Category: L4, Match Reports

The Rebels made it 7 wins out of 7 in a deserved victory over Sonning. After travelling such a long way for the away match and then trying to work out how many white socks we had between us (well prepared!), the Rebels encountered some early pressure from Sonning, who took the lead due to some poor marking from the defence. We then sorted out who should be marking who - which is normally a good idea before you concede - and settled into the match.

Lauren Minshull-Beech and Josie Hogge in midfield influenced a lot of the Rebels attacking play. The equaliser came from a short corner, after having one saved on the line and another going narrowly wide, Siobhan decided on a new tactic - just bang down the middle!!! And this proved sucessful!!

The second half continued with the Rebels attacking and Sonning countering. Emma Gregory was extremely unlucky after her shot was saved on the line by a FOOT and only a short corner was awarded!! However, the winner came from another short corner, after having her first shot blocked, Siobhan pounced on the ball and fired in a high shot, which was well saved by the keeper. Lauren Minshull-Beech reacted first to score. Sonning were rather fired up after this. but could not muster any good chances due to the solid defence of Cathy Cattermole, Jess Brown and Rachel Mann.

This has been a fantastic start to the season - long may it continue.
