The Next Generation Logo

Reading Hockey Club has a large and active youth section, known as the Next Generation, who play on Sunday mornings. We also have a good development plan that enables young plays to progress from youth hockey to playing alongside adults in development teams. We also have an Academy that trains on Tuesday evenings to develop young players with elite potential.

We are currently working towards achieving Club 1st stats, the Clubmark accreditation scheme for England Hockey.

Junior HA Cup Campaigns off to a flyer 06/11/2007

With the juniors back in Cup action this weekend they set off to defend 2 trophies (boys U15 and U18) and go for a clean sweep of entries for this years finals day.

We had matches for the GU18, BU18 and BU15, against Yateley, Havant and Eastcote respectively, with GU15 getting a bye.

All three sides had away ties with the BU18 having the toughest.

I am delighted to report however a 100% success rate with the following results

Girls U18 verses Yateley, won 10 (ten) nil, Amelia 3, Charlotte, Penny, Tally, Cyd, Titch, plus others
Boys U18 verses Havant, won 6 - 3, Ben Cooke 3, Alex Land 2, Chris Newman (although the video panel is looking into it!)
Boys U15 verses Eastcote won 8 - 2 Jason Passmore 3, Dom Cooke 2, Tom Flanagan 2, Matthew Cooke

Boys U15 report

Well done to all those who played in the match against Eastcote today. An 8 - 2 victory was a fantastic result. You all looked like you enjoyed playing today. Star goal scorer was Jason P from Right Back who got 3! Two goals apiece from Tom F and Dom C and a goal from Matthew C rounded off a good afternoon’s work. Jack H despite enduring a very uncomfortable back throughout the match did a great job creating havoc amongst the Eastcote defenders. Talking of defence our defence team of Ted W, Jamie C and Chris B did a great job with good understanding between them and making some great breaks up the pitch when they had picked the ball from the opposition. Thanks to the U14 members that also contributed to the overall team performance. T

Steve Hardy who again guided us fantastically from the sidelines was delighted making the following comments:

In terms of RHC hockey we could not have done better……. with all players gaining valuable experience and playing in such a mature style really was excellent. Not only is 8 pleasing, on another day it could have been double that, but all the goals were real team efforts often stemming from quality counter attacking hockey. For the guys to win with everyone getting at least 25 minutes of pitch time was great.

Girls U18 report

On a beautiful morning a scratch Reading squad played some really great hockey at times to destroy a Yateley team who were better than the score suggests. Our thanks go to the players who helped us out and the ladies 1A’s who released their players who the HA expected to play both.

Yateley keeper played really well and with a score line of only 1 - 0 after the first 20 minutes this result looked a long way off.

But once the second went in there was a series of flowing moves and sharp finishes that led to a small land slide in the last 10 minutes before half time, allowing the team to turn around 6 - 0.

The second half continued with a similar outcome

Junior Regional Tournaments 29/10/2007

Congratulations and well done to all the Reading Next Generation stars who took part in the junior regional tournaments over the half term week.

In the boys the South West Division (the one Berkshire players normally qualify for) won both the U17 and U15 events in the boys, in style by all accounts. In the girls the South came second in both.

Girls Under 17

Jenna Woolvern
Erin Ruxton
Becky Dru

Boys Under 15

Dom Stanford, who played SE rather than SW and although they came 5th had the pleasure and certain bragging rights for being the only side to beat the SW.
Tom King
Shiv Kapoor

Boys Under 17

Chris Newman
James Mcdermottroe
Tim Atkins
Michael Cattermole
Alex Land

We hope to see several of them making it to the international sides, fingers crossed.
