Another Good Day's Work

Title not yet secured
Another good day's work by the Reading Relics as they took on, and comprehensively beat, Eastcote on a windy Saturday morning.
The Relics again played very good vets hockey and kept possession well, with Monty, Brad and Laurie combining well in midfield, as we created a string of chances in the end an easy deflected shot by Micky off a Charlie Lowe cross saw us go into half time 1-0 up.
After half time the chances continued to be created as we kept possession and moved the ball down well both flanks. Peter Wright, returning after a few weeks MIA, provided the assists to allow Laurie and Bartie to score well in quick succession to ensure the game was safely won.
Micky then took a further chance well, flicking the ball over the Eastcote keeper from a narrow angle. More chances went begging as several Reading players hurried their shots or shot wide. Our final goal was from a penalty flick; after extended deliberation the skipper selflessly decided to step up & take it himself to secure his hattrick and ensure Jerry Cooke’s threat to the Top Gun position slipped back a little more!
No man of the match this week as everyone played well and it was a true team victory but with Hampstead winning again the league title may go to the final games of the season. Big thanks to Phil Bastian and Robbo who umpired very well and to the Relics who stayed on to help the Ruins finally find their stride!
The combination of Relics and Ruins in the bar together kept Abdul busy and the selfies reflected a happy group of Reading Vets at RHC. ( £180 spent!!!)
Since a few people asked….here is an updated Relics Top Gun leader board (scorers of 3+ goals):
