Relics Dismantle Surbiton

The Reading Relics picked up where they left off against Epson two weeks ago and efficiently dismantled a spirited Surbiton side in a very impressive first half display (despite an early 11am start).

With Gav, Rage and Bob looking strong in midfield and Brad moving up into good spaces from sweeper we had most of the first half possession and set up three excellent team goals converted by Jerry, Tim G and Bob.

Our second half was not quite as good as we only managed to convert one (via Jerry) further chance and allowed Surbiton to get a consolation goal.

Everyone played well as we rolled our substitutes across the team. As always the lager and Guinness flowed (no beer!) as we enjoyed Surbiton's hospitality and catching up with old friends after too many years of not playing agaisnt them in Redsox or Relics leagues. Team selfie attached.

It was clear that Surbiton have found a successful model for their club -with a good buzz in the bar and lots of paying spectators watching their women's 1st team despite the heavy rain.

Interesting to note that Epsom beat Indian Gym 5 - 0 but not surprising having seen how young and strong the Epsom side is! This leaves Epsom and Reading Relics as joint league leaders and Indian Gym no doubt licking their wounds, so a competitive season ahead.

Well done all for ensuring we had a very satisfying trip to Surbiton.

Next week we have a Grand Masters league game at St Albans on Saturday and an 060s cup match away on Sunday so Barty needs all hands on deck to fulfill and win both fixtures. (The week after the Relics are away, again, at Richmond for another 11am start).
