Welcome to the new 2020/21 season which we expect to start on Sunday 6 September subject to Government and England Hockey Guidance.
Junior Colts (U12 to U16) will have 2 hockey sessions per week. Minis (U8 with min age 5 and U10) have Sunday sessions with the option to join the Mid-week Minis. U18s (Sixth formers) are invited to attend Senior midweek training. Sixth Formers Sunday training will be scheduled to prepare for junior matches. More details of the new Colts schedule are on this page further below.
Our youth hockey section is the ‘The Next Generation’ and we aim to provide a safe and fun environment where young players from the age of 5 to 18 can learn and enjoy hockey. We are always delighted to have new young people join us. No-one needs to have played hockey before as our sessions cater for all abilities. All that is required is the enthusiasm to want to get active and find out about hockey. We offer 2 taster sessions to players to help them consider whether hockey and Reading is right for them. We can provide hockey sticks for trial sessions, disinfected within hygiene guidance. Mouth guards and shin pads are available for sale in the Hungry Hut (take-away food and drinks service).
We expect all players, parents, guardians and visitors to comply with our Guidance on Training in respect of Coronavirus, in particular the need to observe hygiene requirements and to facilitate Track and Trace. Please help us to keep you safe.
All parents and players must adhere to the Members Guidance on training in respect of Coronavirus.
Parents and guardians of children in the U8 and U10 sessions are expected to remain on site throughout the training session (and at matches when matches are permitted to proceed) in case of emergency. Parents and guardians of ages U12 and above are expected to be within 15 minutes (arrival at the pitch side) travel time in case of emergency. It is the responsibility of the parents and guardians to ensure all their membership details for themselves and their children on our members database (pitchero) are current and that they are capable of being contacted during training sessions or matches. This includes all medical and contact details.
All sessions are held at our Sonning Lane club. The child’s age on September 1st 2020 dictates which age group they should join.
Coaching Sessions schedule
