Congratulations to a team of Legends

Following their great result for the 1st team on Saturday, our old boys, in the form our over 50’s side lifted the National Over 50’s Cup with thoroughly deserved 3 - 0 win over a hard working Harleston side.

The first half was a close affair but we showed more quality and should really have been in the lead but dogged defence and some good chances wasted saw us turn round level without score. Man of the match Chris Cookman, who hardly put a foot wrong, combining well with Richard Dodds restricted the opposition to few chances, and Hugh Ian Holden and Adrian Radnedge all combined for a solid defensive display.

As the game went on Harleston tired and Rob Thompson Jon Rees and Roger Wall began to have more influence. Amrish Patel played several testing passes through to our forwards and from one of these Rob Thompson hit a rasping shot high into the net, soon afterwards Roger Wall produced a low and hard shot into the left corner and we were on our way. All played a big part in the win and Hugh deserves great praise for his hard work raising a side for each round, not always easy when players have already played Saturday and the Sunday game is some distance away. We did have a little wobble when we gave away a flick but Rav saved low to his right and from then on it was all Reading.

Tim Armitage added a third after good work from Laurence.

I think all enjoyed their day out and Soma, Stuart, Eric and Peter were mentioned in despatches for their help in earlier rounds.

The game may have been a little slower than the Saturday success but no less pleasing for those who played.
