Performance Player – SUSIE GILBERT has had a magnificent year for Reading and has supported the 1st XI and the colts section throughout the season. Susie can’t be at the awards dinner as she is at the League Playoffs at Lee Valley and will be presented with her shield at the team dinner there.

Player of the season – Nominations for player of the season have come from all the club teams. Sandy Boyle, Luisa Ciampi, Sarah Rooke, Hannah Davies and Laura Gummer have all supported their teams with skilful play, teamwork and/or cheerfulness in the face of adversity. However the winner of the player of the season is for all the above, plus supporting and playing for the first team AND running the mixed hockey team. Player of the season goes to ALYS RICHARDS.

Young player of the season – This is always a challenging award to decide upon and it gets more difficult each year due to the increasing number of Under 18’s in the ladies section. More than one third of the section is now under the age of 18.

Therefore the list of nominations is long:
From the 1st team, Charlotte Daley (NAGS U18) and Livvie Saligoi
From the 4’s, Henna Patel for supporting her older teammates all season

From the 3’s, Molly O’Flaherty, Anna King and Jess Blunden who all improved their game massively during the season

From the 1A’s, Fen Holland, Poppy Martin and Sophie Shakespeare, all of whom supported the 1st team at some point

From the 2A’s, Philly Burns and Charlotte Kerr for commitment and Abbie Taylor as the most improved player

From the 3A’s, Phoebe Thompson for becoming the pillar in the middle, to Grace Mitchell for commitment to the team and to Jess Danbury as most improved player

From the 2’s, Katie Goddard, Kymran Shergill and Abbie Dixon, all of whom were selected for NAGS U16.

And the winner goes to a player who not only improved her play to become a core team player during the season and representing her country, she also became one of the most committed club members by integrating and supporting every team that she played in, even from the side-line when injured. Young player for 2014/15 goes to KYMRAN SHERGILL

Club Member of the Year – In the world of Reading Hockey Club getting players to support the running of the club becomes increasingly difficult so we thank all members and coaches who have supported us during the season.

A special shout out goes to our amazing coaching team of Tino, Emma, Bev, Yvonne, Damon and Merijn and all the volunteers that have umpired for the ladies during the season.

We also have many different people who have taken on roles (even though we always seem to need more) and we thank them all for their time and support.
Therefore the award for club member is always a challenging one as many people could qualify.
However, this year there is one “player” who has led, supported and run her team all season, even though she never got to play at all. The team raised also did their fund-raising and collected all subs and match fees with no issues. Therefore the club member of the year goes to ANNA JUKES.

Team of the year – Always hotly contested, we have three nominations this year.
After a slow start, the 1st XI picked up momentum after the Christmas break and finished up 4th in the league and qualified for the playoffs. The also represented England in the European Indoor championship in Lithuania.
The 2nd XI played some of the best hockey seen in the TrySports league and were unlucky to time their magnificent run at the same time as the Buckingham team did.
This is the most difficult league to get promoted out of as only one team goes up, so the team are standing by for promotion next season.
The 4’s played some excellent hockey, got promoted with games to spare and therefore the team of the year is the LADIES 4th XI.

The Holt Cup is awarded to the lady member who has made a significant contribution to Reading Hockey Club over a number of seasons.
This year, the award goes to a member who is a former club captain, again hasn’t been able to play all season due to injury yet has supported the ladies section by being the fixtures and league registration rep over the past couple of years.
She also manages all the rules and regulations of the National League.
She was the founding captain of the Rebels/3A’s development team and has supported all committee members during her time at the club, especially when her husband was chairman.
Therefore the winner of the 2014/15 Holt Cup goes to SUE NEWMAN.
