Mixed results for the Vets O40 and O50's

By Nick Barton

Reading over 40’s played Kalsa from the midlands on Sunday in the Semi Final of the National over 40’s Cup.
It was a very close game but despite winning over a dozen short corners , hitting the post twice and missing a penalty stroke we sadly went down 2 -1 to a strong Kalsa side who took their limited chances and named their keeper man of the match for them.
We played a little below our best sadly failed to show the class which we undoubtably had on the pitch. Mahmood Bhati creating many chances in the first half and Donny Williams coming close on the left slip at a corner.
It was good to see Jon Wyatt back at Sonning Lane again, last week he scored three goals in ten minutes to win the league title this time however all his corner efforts came up blank.

However it is no good crying over spilled milk so to speak - sometimes it just does not happen. Many thanks to all those who have featured in a great cup run sadly no medal this year in the over 40’s

The Over 50’s faired much better against a Stourport side stretched like us by having two teams in the semifinals, it is never easy for Vets to play twice let alone on the same day. Reading were always in control and indeed should be a little disappointed to have only won only 4 - 0

Well done again to all who played and we can look forward to Harlsten Magpies in the final in a fortnight at Lee Valley push back 11.00am on the 3rd May
