The Dings' biggest day of the season saw a feast on and off the pitch, but the main ingredient - scoring goals - sadly deserted them.
Both the women's and men's first XIs were beaten 2-0 by visitors Surbiton.
But at least the club's vice-presidents and their guests were treated to an excellent three-course lunch at their annual gathering at the Lane.
The day also witnessed the official opening of the new main pitch which was laid during the summer with the traditional cutting of the ribbon being performed by outgoing president John Miller.

The Investec Women's League fixture was first up against unbeaten leaders Surbiton. Blues had drawn 0-0 at Sugden Road in September and the goal-less stalemate continued until the second half on Sunday. However, the visitors secured the breakthrough with a well-worked penalty corner routine finished off by Beckie Herbert in the 48th minute. Another pc move brought Surbiton their second goal from Jo Hunter after 66 minutes.
Like their opponents, Blues forced three pc corners in the second half, but on each occasion Surbiton managed to get the ball away.
Surbiton were the better side on the day and deserved their ninth win in 11 games. It will be surprising if they are dislodged from the top of the table this season.

Before the men's game, there was a minute's silence for Australian cricket Philip Hughes, who died so tragically last week.
The two sides were evenly matched, but the end result was the same as the women, with Blues losing 2-0. They had chances to score before Surbiton took the lead through the third of their four penalty corners, with Matt Daly providing the finish in the 39th minute.
Blues worked hard to get back in the game, but it wasn't to be their day and, after they had lost possession, Alan Forsyth fired home from the top of the circle to complete the scoring with seven minutes of the game remaining.

While the ladies have finished their outdoor programme for the year, the men are back in action next Sunday when they entertain Cannock at the Lane at 2.30. This game was called off at half-time last month due to mist with Blues leading through a Tom Carson goal.
Both the men and women will be competing in the indoor league over the next two months.
