A make shift 2nd XI recovery from conceding two early goals against a well drilled, fit and enthusiastic university side however quick reactions from Huw Kimber at a broken down short corner just before half time made the deficit only one goal at half time.
Reading came out second half a lot more aggressive in the press and much more composed at the back; taking control of the game and shortly into the second half squaring things up through Tom Taplin. Despite lots of procession between the two 25’s there weren’t many clear-cut chances to take the lead giving Cambridge hope of snatching back the lead.
The game was finally settled on strokes with two confident saves from Gary Noble and Joe Chedd slotting home the winning flick. Special mention to Sam Armitage who was making his 2s debut and stepped up to score in the shootout (more than can be said for Captain Kimber)
Man of the Match by a landslide vote was Joe 'Cheddar' Chedd who gave his strongest performance in a Reading shirt to date.
