1st Away Game vs Some Old Faces
By Huw Kimber
Tough game away!
The 2nd game of the season saw Reading 3s away at Wallingford. With Wallingford having a less than successful previous season the team weren't sure what to suspect as they had heard of a few transfers that will have strengthened the team. Alun Lloyd and Henry Ryde, two ex Reading Mens 2s players with Lloyd even taking a few mens 1s caps making up the spine of the opposition team.
Reading made an energetic start to the game and put Wallingford under alot of pressure, this paid dividends with a deflected goal passed in from the shoulder of the D by Huw Kimber which Pete Richards steered in with a deft touch. The 2nd goal of the game came quickly after with Huw Kimber putting away a short corner on the reverse after a slightly off target injection, the team generally agreed that it was definitely a back stick but the Wallingford team and umpires saw no problem with it so Reading took a 2-0 lead.
Just before the half time whistle Reading reacted poorly to a dodgy call by an umpire an were caught on the break, Wallingford slotted away a passing move that left Reading frustrated. The half ended 2-1 with the team feeling positive but knowing there was a lot more work to be done. Coming out after the break Reading the quality of the game reduces dramatically and it descended into some very frantic play. Unfortunately for the Reading team an upright reverse from none other than Lloydy caught a small deflection from Jamie Elder's stick and brought the game level, the score remained the same for the rest of the match much to the annoyance of both sides.
With Witney the next weekend Reading is keen to get back to winning ways.
Dan Hulbert remains goalless.
