Nil Points but positive signs at Ealing

After a hard fought game we started the league season with no points but some positive signs against Ealing Lions.

Following some average defending and some good finishing from Ealing we found ourselves 3-0 down when the half time whistle was blown. That wasn't the whole story though, we played some nice passing hockey and honours were fairly even in the middle of the park. Tino was providing some good link play for us and Toby Pratt's rockets were giving the home team problems of their own to deal with. When an overtime penalty corner was converted by Toby Reading had a way back in to the game.

The second half was a much more competitive affair all around. Ollie Sandell nailed a few tackles at full back and Ryen Dwivedy, Chris Priddle and Tino started to boss the midfield. A good finish from Chris Priddle at a Penalty Corner put us at 3-2 and everything to play for. It was unfortunate for Reading that Ealing scored a great deflected goal to restore a two goal advantage. Rob Kearney then smashed a glorious shot high and hard and Cam Ellis pounced on the rebound to get us back to 4-3. A weakly conceded Penalty Corner wasn't pressed hard enough and Ealing brought the game back to 5-3 and another good finish in to a corner gave Reading too much to do, but when Cam unselfishly played Chris Wright in for a tap-in this side with five 14 and 15 year olds was able to give the scoreline a fairly respectable feel for what will undoubtedly be one of our tougher fixtures.
