An all too familiar story of possession, rub of the green and self-inflicted injury saw Reading lose to a competitive Oxford University side.
Reading dominated the early exchanges but were caught out when the visitors scored from a Penalty Corner conceded on the first occasion that the University got in to the home D. Reading replied swiftly through Chris Wright but went in to half-time a goal down following a break away goal as the University looked to come back strong towards the end of the first half.
Reading played some excellent passing hockey in the second half that faltered in the final third and were unlucky to have a goal chalked off with the ball in the net and the umpire signalling for a Penalty Corner. The University extended their lead after a breakdown at a Reading hit out with the University player seeming to be much closer than the obligatory five metres. However Reading gave themselves a lifeline when a well-taken Penalty Corner allowed David Hudson to get his first of the season. It was not to go Reading's way though, another chalked off goal and a goal on the break gave the visitors a deserved 4-2 victory.
