Reading Men 7's extended their winning run to 9 matches on Saturday with a controlled win over Bicester 3's away at the Cooper School.

With a full team and two subs Reading were set up to take the points from what has traditionally been a tricky away fixture. The game started fairly evenly but soon Reading started to dominate the midfield with higher energy levels which soon told with a goal scored by Ian Cox following a short corner. Reading continued to push and were soon 2-0 up following some more extra-ordinary skill from Harry Lloyd. The gap between the keeper and his near post really was only a balls width but maestro Harry found it with a deft flick. Bicester pulled one back from a penalty flick, the goalward bound shot being deflected wide by the defenders body. The 2-1 score line spurred Reading on and some skill from Max Reed presented Man of the Match, if that is possible for a 13 year old the size of Harry Lloyd with a tap in for his second. Harry then completed his hattrick with another well taken goal before half time. Reading went in to the break again having scored 4 first half goals! Bicester are a good side and some half time changes saw them restrict the Reading playmakers for most of the second half. As Reading pushed forward Bicester counter attacked swiftly and the Reading defence were made to work hard. Solid performances from Izzett, Mallows, the every dependable Daffey and Reed Snr limited clear chances but when the attack did break through Cam Mitchell was there to thwart them. Cam's kicking and positioning was exceptional in goal again. With a bit of footwork Bicester did manage to breach the defence and with the score at 4-2 the game was back on. As time pushed on the Reading attack used the long ball tactic to John Sayer who was enjoying a rare run out on pitch rather than controlling from the side. John managed to get several shots off that made the keeper work. The 7's are becoming short corner demons with Ollie Leeson netting a fifth Reading goal, second of the day from a corner. Reading could have then capped off the game with an even more convincing score line after Ian Cox broke from the halfway line, did all the difficult work to get a one on one with the keeper but then kicked the ball as he entered the D! The game ended in good spirit, Bicester frustrated from missed chances but knowing when Reading needed to be they were the better side. Reading are now top by two points but have played a game more than the team currently second. They still need to play the 3rd and 4th placed teams who only 3 points behind them and Witney, who managed to inflict the heaviest defeat on them before their winning run started. Promotion and the league looks like it will go to the wire!
