Men’s 7’s hosted our cheery neighbours South Berks Terriers on a beautiful wintery SLW. A squad which had many newly acquired parts took their time to tune in to each other’s wavelengths.
With an age range of 13 to Ronan D (a young 23 he tells me), the 7’s had a mixture of abilities and athletic prowess.
The game started tough but improved as the half drew to a close and a goal was grabbed after a few interceptions from the goalkeeper wasn’t enough - goalscorer was young Oli D. The solid South Berks goalkeeper who would go on to frustrate Reading for the rest of the game.
The second half started as the first half finished, with Reading improving in their shape and manoeuvring of the ball. With counter attacks providing our most likely chances using the youthful pace in the forward line and the vision of the experienced technical players in midfield such as the post surgery returning Angus L providing us with guile and incisive play.
At the Cameron M kept the opponents at bay by reducing the opposition’s attacks to half chances by his early reading of their attacks, when in reality, they should have got a couple of goals in the first half alone. Having snuffed out the early chances for South Berks in the beginning of the second half, Reading extended their lead by a slalom run from Maximilian R! Having jinked past 5 of the opposition players by hook or by crook, words of ‘you jammy s**t!’ were emanating from the neighbouring small club’s players.
Nonetheless, a fantastic win against a very strong squad to keep the 7’s in the hunt for promotion! Up the 7’s! #7Up
